When Courage Becomes the Plan
This episode launches a new TURTZED segment focused on coaches: why they became coaches, and how they help clients. Kelsey Whittaker, the first guest, shares a story shaped by health, loss, and the decision to build a life that feels aligned.
From Corporate Burnout to a Different Calling
Kelsey spent 13 years in corporate marketing, including work in senior health care, where she saw how lifestyle habits influence aging. After having two babies and living through the pandemic, the passion faded. Burnout set in. She stepped away and began searching for what was next.
Grief That Turned Into Purpose
During that search, Kelsey’s brother died in a tragic accident. At his funeral, 1,500 people showed up. That moment hit hard. It made her ask what kind of impact she wanted to make. Two months later, she enrolled in a health coaching certification program. It gave her purpose, forward motion, and a way to honor her brother.
Health as the Real Wealth
Her brother used to ask people a question: would you rather have: a clean bill of health or a million dollars? His answer was always health. Even though his death was not health related, it pushed Kelsey to think about how many losses could be prevented through lifestyle changes, especially around chronic disease.
What Kelsey Helps Clients With
Clients come to her saying, “I feel off, but I don’t know why,” or “I want to feel good in my body again.” She supports people through transitions like postpartum, menopause, grief, chronic pain, and general burnout. The work can include reducing inflammation, stabilizing blood sugar and hormones, improving sleep, and building sustainable habits step by step.
How She Keeps People Consistent
Kelsey meets clients where they are, with options that match their needs and budget. Some start with meal planning support. Others work one on one with consistent check ins and weekly adjustments. For deeper cases, she partners with a functional medicine team for diagnostic testing, then helps clients implement a personalized plan with accountability.
The Core Lesson
It does not have to be all or nothing. The things you do today will set you up for your future, but flexibility and grace matter. Healthy habits should support your life, not remove the joy from it.
Her “Lionheart” Message
Kelsey’s business name, Lionheart Health Coaching, is rooted in her brother’s mantra: be a lion. Courage and bravery matter, especially when you are trying to change habits and take ownership of your health.
A Moment That Felt Like a Sign
At the end of the podcast taping, the recording time lands on 30:30, a number tied to a verse meaningful to Kelsey and her brother. It becomes a quiet reminder of connection, purpose, and the feeling that she is on the right path.
